Expert Post-natal (Mummy) MOT At The White Hart Clinic
A Post-natal (Mummy) MOT is a specialist women’s health physiotherapy appointment designed to assess your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles and overall recovery following pregnancy and birth.
Pregnancy places increased pressure on the abdominal wall and pelvic floor, regardless of whether you have had a vaginal or caesarean birth. The assessment can help identify areas that may need support and give you a safe, gradual plan for returning to exercise and everyday activity.
We usually recommend booking from around six weeks after birth, but we are happy to see you sooner if you have pain, concerns about your recovery or would like some early advice. It is also never too late to have an assessment, even if you gave birth several years ago.
Your Post-natal (Mummy) MOT may include:
- A discussion about your pregnancy, birth, recovery, symptoms and goals
- An assessment of your abdominal muscles, breathing and any abdominal separation
- An assessment of your posture, movement, strength and areas of pain
- A pelvic-floor assessment, including an internal examination where appropriate and only with your agreement
- A check of any scarring or discomfort following a vaginal or caesarean birth
- Advice on bladder, bowel or prolapse symptoms
- Guidance and exercises to help you return gradually to walking, running, gym work or other activity
