Gentle Relief for Painful Nails
Expert Nail Conditions Treatment At The White Hart Clinic
Nail conditions affect the appearance, structure and overall health of the toenails. In the UK, around 1 in 4 people experience some form of nail issue in the course of their lives.
These can develop for a variety of reasons, including infection, injury, pressure from footwear, underlying health conditions or natural changes over time. Nail problems are more common in older adults, as well as in people with poor circulation or diabetes.
Common signs include thickening, discolouration, lifting of the nail or changes in nail shape. While some issues may seem minor, they can become increasingly uncomfortable and difficult to manage if left untreated.
Common nail conditions we treat:
- Fungal Nail Infections (Onychomycosis): Thickened, brittle or discoloured (yellow/brown) nails caused by fungus
- Thickened Nails (Onychogryphosis): Nails that are difficult to cut, often caused by trauma, pressure or ageing
- Subungual Haematoma: Blood trapped under the nail, usually after an injury, which can be safely drained to relieve pressure
- Nail Separation (Onycholysis): When the nail lifts or detaches from the nail bed
- Paronychia: Infection of the skin around the nail, causing swelling, redness and sometimes pus
- Trauma and Deformity: Split, cracked or irregularly shaped nails resulting from injury or repeated pressure
- Routine Care for High-Risk Patients: Professional nail cutting for patients with diabetes, poor circulation or mobility issues to prevent infections
- Ingrown Toenails: When the edge of a toenail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, redness and sometimes infection
