Expert Women’s Health Physiotherapy At The White Hart Clinic
Women’s health physiotherapy is a specialised branch of physical therapy that assesses and treats conditions affecting the pelvis, pelvic floor, and physical changes related to pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. Women’s health physiotherapy can also help with bladder and bowel symptoms and pelvic pain.
We understand that some of these problems can be difficult to talk about. Your appointment will take place in a private treatment room, and your physiotherapist will talk you through the assessment before starting. If an internal examination may be helpful, it will only be performed with your agreement.
We also provide pessary fittings and specialist Pregnancy, Mummy and Menopause MOT appointments.
What to expect:
- A private conversation about your symptoms, history and lifestyle to understand what is happening and how we can help
- A detailed assessment, including when and how symptoms came about, your medical history as well as assessment of your posture, movement and pelvic floor muscle function. This may also include real-time ultrasound to see how the pelvic-floor and abdominal muscles are working.
- A clear explanation of our findings and a discussion of treatment options, which may include pelvic-floor exercises, gentle joint mobilisations, treatment for tight or painful muscles, scar massage or advice about bladder and bowel habits.
- Treatment during the appointment as appropriate, plus advice to support you at home
Common reasons to see a Women’s Health Physiotherapist:
- Pelvic floor issues such as incontinence, prolapse and pelvic pain
- Pregnancy‑related discomfort in the pelvis, back or hips
- Postnatal recovery, including abdominal separation (diastasis recti)
- Menstrual or hormone‑related pelvic pain
- Bladder problems such as urgency, leakage or difficulty emptying
- Bowel problems and constipation
- Recovery after gynaecological surgery
Pregnancy MOT, Post-natal (Mummy) MOT and Menopause MOT assessments are available to provide a thorough check-up at these important stages.
We also offer Pessary Fittings to help with pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.
